CEED and the International Academy of Cabrera

You can choose to donate a portion of your villa fee the CEED Foundation.  The CEED Foundation uses the funds it raises to support a local school by providing much needed supplies and resources. Part of the payment for each villa rental can be donated to the CEED Foundation which in turn is funding the Academia Internacional de Cabrera (International Academy of Cabrera). This model school offers a better education through project based learning in a bilingual setting. In addition the school also works with the local community to provide jobs and English classes to the parents of students.

Your donations help pay teacher salaries, school maintenance as well as books and supplies at the school. The AIC is also trying to improve teacher training, and will be providing a Montessori teacher trainer for the preschool teachers in 2009. By training the local teachers in Montessori we hope to instill the youngest students with a love of learning that will last throughout their academic career.

The future vision is one of growth and learning opportunities. AIC is currently a preschool through sixth grade school, but each year another grade is added. CEED's vision is to have a preschool through 12th grade bilingual school where students work on meaningful projects and through these learn to develop problem solving skills to serve them in the global economy.  The school will also teach basics of building and maintaining some alternative energy sources.

International Academy of Cabrera

Academia Internacional de Cabrera (AIC) is a private school that was started by Felicita Garcia and her husband. Felicita, a local mother, dreamed of providing a better education for her own children while remaining in Cabrera. With no hope for better schooling options on the horizon, Felicita used her own savings and solicited donations from local business people to start a school in 2007. With limited capital, she rented an abandoned discotheque and in less than three months she had her school with nearly 100 students. In 2008 with the support of visionaries Dan and Ruthie Moller, Vacation for a Purpose was started to support this local school.
